The download process consists of three parts: firstly download of the database control software, secondly the initial download of optional picture files and thirdly a periodic check and update of stored files.

The database control software, including the data files, is contained in the self extracting zip file adb5p1.exe (20 Mbytes) (See Disclaimer). Note that due to the large file size, it is advisable to disable any Internet connection timeout features on your computer during the download.

Note that if a previous version of the database is already installed on your system, it is advisable to either uninstall it prior to downloading this version or to install this version using an alternative folder name. It should also be noted that if any user comments were made in the existing version of the database the files: adb_com.dbf and adb_com.dbt must be backed up to prevent loss of data. These two files will be in the software data folder. The default path is: C:\ProgramFiles\ADB\Data.

Database Control Software and Data File Download Steps

1 - Create a temporary folder on your computer e.g. c:\adbtemp and download adb5p1.exe into it.
2 - On running adb5p1.exe, specify the temporary folder name and all files will be extracted into it.
3 - Finally run setup.exe located in the temporary folder to complete installation of the software and database files.
4 - The installation routine may require you to restart your computer. It is recommended to restart before running the database control software (adb.exe).
5 - On successful installation of the software, the temporary folder and its contents may be deleted.

Initial Download of Optional Picture Files

The database refers to pictures associated with accidents but they are not contained in the zip file downloaded as above. Therefore, during the first run of the database control software, you may choose the option under "Tools" called "Check Web for Updates" to download the optional picture files (approx 95 Mbytes in total).

Note: If you have not installed adb5p1, downloading the latest data file will result in an error when you run the software. Download and install adb5p1 to abtain the latest software and data.

Periodic Check and Update of Stored Files

The menu option under "Tools" called "Check Web for Updates" should be invoked periodically to check for data files and picture files that need updating. You should download at least the data files identified as "Essential" but the other files are pictures, identified as "Optional", and may be downloaded as and when convenient.

Please note that we are unfortunately unable to provide technical support with using this software. However, we would like to assess the degree of interest in the provision of a training course for the database. If you would be interested in a training course, please let us know at training@rgwcherry.co.uk
