Current & Recent Projects

Current projects include:

Integrated Fire Protection Systems
Customer: Transport Canada

Project Objective: To determine the feasibility, practicality, and possible improvements to passenger safety that are likely to result from the implementation of ‘integrated’ fire protection systems (including cabin/cargo water mist systems, nitrogen inerting systems, OBIGGS/OBOGS, etc.)

Enhanced Evacuation Capability
Customer: Transport Canada

Project Objective: To investigate potential impediments to evacuation, as well as associated regulatory issues, on transport category aeroplanes (of various sizes), and conduct assessments of the benefits likely to accrue from the implementation of pertinent improvements.

Studies on Thermal/Acoustic Insulation Fire Risk Reduction - Development of a Mitigation Methodology
Customer: Transport Canada

Project Objective: To investigate the fire safety risks associated with the flammability of materials in hidden areas, particularly Thermal Acoustic Insulation and potential means by which these can be quantified and mitigated (e.g. through reduction of materials flammability, mitigation of ignition sources, etc.)

This research is in support of the Materials Fire Test Working Group activities.

Management of the Cabin Safety Research Technical Group Accident Database
Customer: US Federal Aviation Administration, UK Civil Aviation Authority, Transport Canada

The accident database has now been upgraded to a web-based version.
